What is a speed test?
A speed test measures the speed between your device and a test server using your internet connection. It measures the download speed (how fast your device pulls a file down) and the upload speed (how fast it sends one up). Different devices, such as a laptop or smartphone, can produce different results — so you might see one figure on one device and another on a second, even on the same provider. Some devices, or your Wi-Fi router, may not be able to reach the full speed of your service. Test servers also perform differently; generally you'll get faster speeds from a server closer to you, so it's worth testing a few to get the most complete picture of your connection.
